Muni Meltdown!

Don't get me wrong, I love public transportation. I don't know why, it lets me down more often than it should, and sometimes it's really crowded, or delayed. And sometimes I get smooshed into people making me closer to them than I've been to most of my friends. But somehow, I still love it.

Today, however, I am rethinking my love. Today SF Muni you melted down on me in a way you've never done before. And I know you can't help it that you're connected to the Bart train and if they get evacuated due to fire, then you have to too. But today this is just ridiculous.

My morning timeline
8:55 - leave my house
9:13 - get on train (10 minutes later than expected) b*tch to myself about not taking slow surface train
9:28 - get off train at next stop (that is literally a 6 minute walk away from first stop, train was stuck in the tunnel that whole time. Also, i would have gotten off at this stop anyways, but they actually made us leave the station)
9:31 - standing at bus stop with a bajillion other people
9:33 - still no bus, trying to hail a cab, no luck
9:40 - first surface train arrives - PACKED TO THE GILLS
9:45 - no sign of another train or bus - people are spilling into the streets (the picture only shows about 1/4 of the crowd)
9:50 - next train arrives also FULL - decide F it, and start walking home (since I am only 6 minutes away from my normal stop)
9:55 - remember that there is a cafe with free wi-fi a block away.
9:58 - enjoy a nice cup of a tea and some awesome french pop music
10:40 - battery runs low, i hear the fire is out and the trains are running again, say farewell to the french pop and give the barista a fat tip for saving my morning!

Looks like I picked a good day to work from home.

Crazy that they would shut down the Muni too. Gotta love BART though (how about the time last summer when all BART trains were shutdown and no trains were going through the tunnel from the East Bay to the City (and vice-versa)?).

Then again, I long for the days when Muni or BART can ruin my day as opposed to studying for the bar exam ruining my day...
